‘With Hamlet, the depth of his grief – and then the convergence of his grief into grievance – and how the compression of his grief; and the fact that his grief was somehow forbidden and curtailed is what turns that mourning – or that lack of mourning – into grievance. And it shows – I think – of all Shakespeare’s plays, the utility of retaliation and grievance. Hamlet has all this grievance: I must avenge my father; kill my uncle. And he’s angry with everybody, he can’t see the wood for the trees, and it only brings him ruin. But he was never allowed to let it go. To investigate that, and of course, Hamlet is about so much more than that. It’s about the value of being alive, and you have this young man who has lost his connection to the meaning of being alive. Having to inhabit that: what does it mean to feel that the argument for being has lost? That there is a question of the ‘be or not to be’; that maybe ‘not to be’ is a better idea… But he’s at that moment where he’s staring into the abyss, going: ‘Well, maybe it’s not so great, life actually.’ And to go down there, and investigate what that feels like, and give that shape. Of course, even in trying to explain the experience of playing these parts i’m somehow reducing it, or confining it. They live on.’  ~ Tom Hiddleston passionately talks about taking on the role of Hamlet

@nuggsmum he’s talking shakespeare but all I see are moves of seduction.

I kinda see him trying to talk to my depression. To be bitch. To be.

“When he wrote [Coriolanus], Shakespeare must have been phenomenally cross! It’s like someone spent their whole career with people going: ‘Do you know what would be really good? If we had one of those…’, ‘Wouldn’t a scene about that be great’, ‘Are you sure about that bit?’ And [Shakespeare’s] just like ‘Aargh!’ ” ~ Josie Rourke and Tom Hiddleston talk Shakespeare, [Pt 1]

Hey op! I just saw your post about Loki having scars for the new series, and I think I’m having a brain fart. Can you explain please?

izhunny:

Absolutely!!!! Loki was skewered by the Kursed and died near the end of The Dark World to save Thor, Jane, and the nine realms.

However, when the test audience absolutely refused to believe/want/accept that Loki actually gave his life (because who in their right minds wants to be done with a character like that?!?!) they rewrote the ending and credits to seat Loki on the throne and meddling mischievously in his brother’s affairs before the film’s theatrical release.

There’s been much discussion and conjecture from the actors/writers/ producers about IF Loki died or was “faking his death” but please keep in mind when they filmed it, Loki died in his brother’s arms and it was a genuine redeeming and noble death….

This isn’t a paradox for me because I head canon Loki died but Loki can’t stay dead for some esoteric reasons I’m not getting into here because they are my pure conjecture with regards to MCU canon…

Canon TTDW: Loki was impaled and died. Loki somehow doesn’t die and assumes the throne (apparently to embrace the arts, pull asgard out of nine realms politics, and have a bit of a relax) and sends his brother off to follow his own desires somewhat guilt free (thor did leave his brother’s corpse unburied and uncelebrated after a noble warriors death on Svartlheim), Loki was a key element to saving the nine realms from yet another infinity stone wielded by another small minded villain…

So, I think/hope/wish/beg whatever powers that be that we get some form of shirtless (I don’t think this part needs defense) Loki in the series. And there are silvery scars on both his dorsal and ventral surfaces where he was impaled and that someone sees them and questions him.

And he gets to say: Oh, that? Just a little trophy I got for saving our corner of the universe.

Or he magics up a message t-shirt that says: I WENT TO SVARTLHEIM AND ALL I GOT WAS SKEWERED!

Or *crosses fingers and prays* he has a friend in the series. They are genuinely worried for Loki having accidentally caught sight of the scar on his back and truly mortified when Loki turns around and there’s proof that both sides of him are scarred. No one should be able to survive an injury like that, says the friend. And Loki sadly replys ‘I didn’t really.’ before he clothes himself. The friend crushes Loki into a hug and tells him he is the biggest badass and dumbass and they’re sure to overcome whatever is plaguing the series as conflict because Loki is on their side in it. Then they make Loki comfort food or tea or hot cocoa or something and then they all kick some ass together or whatever.

Thanks so much for the ask! Hope you enjoyed my answer.
