“Tom why are you in the cellar, your’re not looking for your Christmas presents are you?”
“Absolutely not! I would never do that” The look as he came up said otherwise.He disappeared upstairs changed and went out to work.
Conny came home that evening to find find him, having come straight from work and not even changed. back ferreting around down in the dark, swearing as he stubbed a toe.
when he emerged from the gloom she was at the top of the cellar steps to interrogate him again.
“You were looking for your Christmas gifts weren’t you?” she said to the six foot two, five year old in front of her, who had guilty written all over his face.
And now he looked up with the sad eyes and how could you miss trust me look,
“I would never do that my darling” he told her hugged her real tight and kissed her on her forehead before going off to make tea.For this year at least he gave up the hunt.

“Tom if I catch you looking for your presents like last year, I will give them to the homeless” just like last year the little sod was down in the cellar hunting for goodies. He was honestly worse than any child.
“Come on up here’ where I can see you” Conny told him. he came up from the dark and grinned at her, gave his best innocent face and tried the, Hug me, love me, trick, as he did every year and any time he’d done something wrong.
“The beard does not hide the crime, my love” she told him
“And nor does that cheeky grin” this time he grabbed her, kissed her hard and said,
“Would offering up the services of my body to you, help?”
“You really know how to get around a girl don’t you”
